Windows Download & Installation Instructions

Please note that the WIN installer is outdated. Please evaluate the latest version 3.2 of ]po[ using the VM image which you can download from
http://www.project-open.org/download/index.html

If you have never used VM technology before, you might find this site useful .

This page describes the installation of:

based on the OpenACS 5.1.5 community system on a Windows platform. The installation process takes between 10 and 30 minutes.

Supported Platforms

Supported:

  • Windows 2000 (professional & server)
  • Windows XP
  • Windows 2003 Server
  • Novell/SuSE Linux 9.1
  • Novell/SuSE Linux 9.2

Does not run on:

  • Windows ME,
  • Windows 98
  • Debian "Woody" stable

Probably runs on:

  • Linux 2.6.x in general
  • Sun Solaris
  • Apple OS X 10.x
  • FreeBSD
 

Included Software

There is only a single Windows installer that includes all of the necessary software:

Download the Installer

Please go to the Sourceforge File Release page and download the current version:

Install The OpenACS Platform

Run the "ProjectOpen-3.1.x.x.Wininstaller.exe". The installer will ask you for several options in the following screen. Just leave all fields with the default values to get a running system.

Select Components

The screenshot below shows the default selection screen.

Please choose the product you want to install (see description in "Included Software" above).

After the installation please start your favourite Web Browser (IE, Opera, FireFox, ...) and enter the URL: "http://localhost:80/". You should see the very first OpenACS screen. Congratulations! This was the hard part.

After the Installation

Please restart your computer after the installation.

Starting and Stopping ]project-open[

]project-open[ is a server application or "service". I does not have a Windows GUI as many other Windows applications. However, we have provided you with several tools to control this server:

In particular, you will have to restart ]project-open[ after the installation of new modules.

Modifying ]project-open[ Service Properties
