Download and Install ]project-open[ V3.3/V3.4

VMware Installer

There are several options on how to install ]po[:

VMware Installer

A VMware virtual machine image is our preferred installation method since version V3.2. VMware works for Windows, Linux and Apple and includes a pre-configured]project-open[ server on a Linux SuSE 9.3 base system. The installation itself takes less then 5 minutes.

Please proceed as follows.

  1. Download "project-open-VMware-3.x.zip" from SourceForge. The file is about 700MB and contains a zipped VMware virtual machine.

  2. Follow the instructions from the README. See an overview of all steps involved here.

  3. Plese download and install either "VMware Server 1.x " or "VMware Player" from VMware to run the virtual machine. Both applications are free.

  4. Follow the instructions from the README.
Basicly, you need to unzip the installer into VMware's "Virtual Machines" directory and start the VM.

  5. Login to the VMware as user "root" with password "root".

That's all. For questions/ suggestions/ ... please visit our Open Discussions forum at SourceForge.

Windows

We are currently working on a native Windows installer. Until then, using the VMware installer above, is the fastest way to get ]po[ up and running on a WINDOWS box. This method is supported by us and strongly recomended.

However, some users reported successfuls installations of ]project-open[ on top of Maurizio Martignano's Win32-OpenACS System.

Novell/SuSE

An Open SuSE 10.2 RPM installer is available at our SourceForge download zone. Please note that the installer does not work with SuSE 10.0.

RedHat

There are RPM installers available for RHEL 4 and Fedora Core 6 at our SourceForge download zone.

Gentoo

There is an excellent ]project-open[ Installation how-to for Gentoo Linux.

Debian

Iván Belmonte created a native Debian installer: http://ivanhq.net/project-open-on-debian-etch/

Ubuntu

Based on Iváns work Venkat Mangudi came up with a method to install ]po[ on Ubuntu: http://www.venkatmangudi.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=18&Itemid=37/
